Geometry Unit

We are beginning 2D Geometry before the holidays.  We will then move on to 3D figures.  The expectations are as follows:
  • I can identify and compare various polygons (triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, heptagons, octagons) and sort them by their geometric properties (# of sides, side lengths, # of interior angles, # of right angles)
  • I can use a reference tool to identify right angles and to describe and compare angles as greater than, equal to, or less than a right angle
  • I can compare and sort prisms and pyramids by their geometric properties
  • I can construct rectangular prisms and describe geometric properties of prisms
  • I can solve problems requiring the greatest or least number of 2D shapes needed to compose a larger shape in a variety of ways
  • I can explain the relationships between different types of quadrilaterals
  • I can identify and describe the 2D shapes that are found in 3D shapes
  • I can describe and name prisms and pyramids by the shape of their base
  • I can identify congruent 2D shapes by manipulating and matching concrete materials

Snowflake Sale

Dear Parents/Guardians

St. Bernard will be hosting it's 3rd annual Snowflake Sale. The idea behind the snowflake sale is that students bring in some gently used items from home in order to sell at school. The grade 6 students have chosen this fundraiser in order to raise money for WeSchools. All money raised with be donated to our local and global initiative- Hunger and Women’s Empowerment.

At this time, we are asking all families, if you have any gently used items that you may be donating to goodwill, if you could please send them to the school for our snowflake sale which will happen on December 20, 2018. Students can begin bringing in items. We ask that all items be at school by Wednesday December 19, 2018.

We are also looking for some parent volunteers that would be able to help set up on Wednesday December 19, 2018 starting at 2:30pm. If you are able to help out, can you please contact Ms Porcari at the school.

Some items to consider (books, toys, ornaments, crafts, knick- knacks, games, puzzles, gift ideas for mom and dad and wrapping paper, gift bags, bows and gift tags)

Thank you,
The Grade 6 team
